A Literacy of the Imagination

a deeper look at innovation through the lenses of media, technology, venture investment and hyperculture

Learning is a reciprocal experience; you get back as much as you give.

I am constantly reminded that we are all students when it comes to life and business. I teach because I want to test the knowledge we accumulate and I believe we should all remain intellectually curious. I speak because I want to share that knowledge and help spark new conversations around how we can improve our business, media, policy and commerce systems.

I work with a number of academic institutions that span North America, South America and Europe, including The University of Southern California, Miami Ad School, Claremont McKenna and The University of Waterloo. I am currently launching an exciting new program at The Don Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UCI's Paul Merage School of Business that gets corporate stakeholders, local startups and graduate students working together to build up the entrepreneurial ecosystem, create jobs and help solve socioeconomic problems.

I've been fortunate enough to speak to audiences in a dozen markets outside of the United States (I live in Southern California), including France, Norway, Israel, Canada and Australia on topics ranging from business innovation to new economic constructs to content development to adaptive analytics to multi-platform storytelling. I am consistently amazed and humbled by the high level of innovation you find in the "smaller corners" of the world.

I typically commit to about six engagements per year; basically, I look for components such as:

- The influence a market might have (not its size);

- The breadth of the audience (not just marketers, but technologists and different types of business and community leaders);

- The intention of the event (not just for networking, but to foster innovation);

- And ideally, the ability to prototype (environments for creating new platforms and/or methodologies).

Full disclosure: For speaking engagements or workshops, I charge an appearance/delivery fee plus all expenses paid.

If you have something you would like to discuss that you are passionate about and meets these requirements, please feel free to contact me...
